There are so many images out there of vibrant, colorful and definitely beautiful living spaces. But the aesthetic that I'm always drawn back to is white starkness. Chalky, white walls; old wood floors; warm greys; deep, moody blues; large windows; light-flooded rooms; simple, unadorned furniture with thin, clean lines; weathered wood. I'm a weirdo who actually doesn't want to paint my white apartment walls, even if my landlord were to allow it!
"Starkness" is a word that I tend to use to describe the aesthetic that I love, but the term "stark" casts way too wide a net. I love a warm starkness. Modern, minimalist spaces tend to feel cold to me. I'm drawn to a lived-in feel. Simple and white, yet full of warmth, love and character. What I wouldn't give for a pretty little Swedish apartment!
